It's my 29th birthday today, and while I still have a migraine (rebound headache from too much Excedrin over the weekend, I think), I am feeling able again to look beyond myself.
I took in a kilo of cream puffs for the maternity ward, where the midwives with many kisses wished me a happy birthday and a long, happy life.
This is upsetting me, as is the response of some of our male staff, who insist that this is simply Afghan culture, and the way it has to be here.

What would help? Is there anything at all we can do to stop this becoming law? It sounds like an absolute disaster.
