at lunch i had a banana, a chili pepper, and a piece of naan (forgoing the heaping pile of rice, lentils, and meatballs).
V: "You are not eating?"
me: "I need to lose weight for my wedding."
V: "But you look so beautiful when you are fat!"

The best Asian compliment I got when I was teaching in China: "Miss Liz, you are not the prettiest teacher, but you have the best heart." Hey at least I knew she meant it.
