we are very proud of this word "midwife"

A large part of why I came back to Afghanistan was to work alongside the head midwife at the hospital here, a lovely, motivated woman who I completely fell in love with a year ago. V. has become an important person in Afghan midwifery, participating in the recent national curriculum review, and in the leadership of the Afghan Midwives' Association. I'll be working closely with her these next six months, developing protocols and ongoing education for the staff midwives. It's neat to see how she's developed professionally even in the last year. This morning she and I were chatting as we drove over to the family health clinic and she said "We are very proud of this word 'midwife.'"

So am I.
